The SOUTHERN ONTARIO CHAPTER

 2003 ANNUAL MEETING

The 2003 Annual General Meeting & Conference was held March 21-23, at the Leslie M. Frost Centre in Dorset, Ontario. We had a variety of presentations from fisheries professionals and students. Here is a summary of the technical presentations we enjoyed.

Karen Murchie (Department of Fisheries and Oceans) - "The Application of Physiological (EMG) Telemetry on a Hydro River"

Stewart Strathearn (Lotek Wireless Inc) - "Advances in Radiotelemetry for Fisheries Science Biology: Monitoring the Road Ahead"

Gregor Reid (University of Guelph) - "Continuous Monitoring of Water Quality Around Rainbow Trout Pens"

David Stanley (Stantec Consulting Ltd) - "Hydroacoustics in Fisheries Surveys and Assessments"

Deborah Martin-Downs (Gartner Lee Limited) - "Environmental Effects from Water Takings"

Brian Hindley (Aquafor Beech Limited) - "Fish Community Based Targets for Use in Watershed Restoration and Monitoring Plans"

Peter Foote (Louis Berger & Associates) - "Assessment of the Effects of the Proposed Removal of Three Dams on the Presumpscot River, Maine"

Chris Wilson (Trent University) - "Applying Genetic Markers to Fisheries Management and Program Direction"

The technical sessions were well attended and of great interest and we extend a heartfelt thank you to our speakers.

Feedback at the meeting indicated that some people would like to try an alternative date for the AGM next year, perhaps a move to February from the traditional third week in March. The Executive Committee is considering this.
